DESCRIPTIONS OF AVAILABLE PILF BOARD POSITIONS
All board members must attend board meetings (approximately once a month). Board members must support the events planned by fellow board members by attending or assisting in planning. Board members will also be expected to take on ad hoc tasks for the auction. The individual position descriptions are listed below, but if you are elected, you may enhance your role as you see fit.
Public Relations Chair
The Public Relations Chair is responsible for representing PILF’s mission and vision to USF’s student body, faculty, and administration. This includes, but is not limited to, creating educational and promotional materials about PILF and our work, working with members and volunteers on PILF projects, such as the Auction, and keeping in regular contact with representatives from other allied organizations to discuss co-sponsorship of events and other relevant topics. The position would have a close working relationship with the Communications Chair. The Public Relations Chair is additionally in charge of designing the printed program for the 2010 Auction and creating all on-campus advertising.
Communications Chair
The Communications Chair is responsible for the external communications concerning PILF. This chair would work with different news media outlets to promote PILF events to the SF Bay Area community. This position would have a close working relationship with the Public Relations Chair and the USF Law Communications Director. Events that would be promoted during the year include, but are not limited to the Donate-A-Day event in the summer and the Annual Auction in the fall. The Communications Chair will preferably have some background in media relations and public speaking.
Professional Development Chair
The professional development chair serves as a conduit for all career-related and networking events that are done in connection with PILF. He or she also acts as a liaison to the Office of Career Planning. The professional development chair’s main role for 2010-2011 is to organize a series of career panels designed to expose students to opportunities working on behalf of the public interest.
Social Chair
The Social Chair is responsible for organizing all social and community outreach events. This includes arranging the volunteer party following the Auction, PILF bar nights, and 2 or more community service events. All of these activities require coordination and a joint effort with other student groups and professional organizations.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is in charge of PILF’s finances. Responsibilities include managing PILF’s cash box, organizing bake sales, purchasing food for PILF meetings/events, and attending SBA Senate meetings as the PILF representative. The position requires a few hours at the beginning of each semester to anticipate planned events and organize a budget for SBA funding requests.
2L and 3L Class Representatives
The 2L and 3L Class Representatives keep their respective classes informed about PILF-related events. This includes sending e-mails through the PILF listserve, writing announcements on chalkboards, and encouraging fellow students to attend PILF events. For the 2010-2011 year, Class Representatives will also be required to spend at least 6 hours helping our Auction Coordinators prepare for the 2010 Auction.
Webmaster
The Webmaster updates and maintains PILF’s website. This is NOT an elected position. If you would like to take on this role, please e-mail the PILF Chairs directly.
